Tuscany Yoga Retreat 2017
A yoga holiday that combined nature and nurture to balance and boost overall well-being
In 2017, the Lotus Room went on a homely and nurturing yoga holiday in Tuscany, where rolling hills and breath-taking landscapes provided the perfect setting for a strong dedicated daily yoga practice to bring insight of how to boost your well-being.
Delicious, homemade food, stunning walks, numerous holy sites from the mysterious Etruscan civilisation, the crystal clear Lake Bolsena, the majestic city of Orvieto and the Medieval village of Civita di Bagnoregio added to the experience, with an atmosphere, fragrances, colours and flavours unique to Italy!

The Sankalpa, highest intention, of this trip was to restore your body and mind to balance so that you may come into harmony and sync with the rhythm of your own soul voice and live in an authentic state of peace, wholeness and integration. This was achieved by focusing on the proper foundations for a life of yoga, whether on the mat or in our day to day lives. We delved deeply into the foundation and proper alignment of poses and why and how yoga supports us in creating the life we want.
The Lotus Room Tuscany Yoga Retreat 2017 experience
We settled into the old stone farmhouse with a beautiful swimming pool, which was surrounded by rolling hills and breath taking landscapes of green grass, which rippled like waves in the wind.
We practiced yoga in the yoga shala and on an amazing outdoor deck. The practice focused on the foundation of yoga and proper alignment of poses, with an intention to discover why and how yoga supports us in creating the life we want.
The evening meditation focused on freeing ourselves from shadow negative emotions, a subtle daily progression that culminated in facing our blockages and releasing them to experience an opening of our heart fields connected together. This was celebrated through a movement meditation just before the closing circle.
Apart from our daily yoga and meditation practice, we were able to enjoy several aspects of Tuscany. The food, which we enjoyed in the cosy dining room or outdoors, was made with love with freshly picked organic ingredients from their own produce. Fruit and herbal teas made from fresh organic herbs were available all of the time
Some of us visited the Park Monte Rufeno and we stopped for a delicious gelato on the way back! We also visited the nearby majestic city of Orvieto and the Medieval village of Bagnioreggio, which was truly a highlight! We also enjoyed a wine and oil tasting session.
Tuscany proved to be another fruitful yoga retreat. I feel grateful for being assisted by my yogini mum, who assisted hands-on during the yoga sessions. I also appreciate having had Fritz as part of the Lotus Room team – he captured so many amazing moments, while his open free-spirit was welcomed and enjoyed by all. Above all I thank my students for joining and participating to make this such a deeply fulfilling experience for all.
